ACU Dunlop MotoStar Anglesey 19th August
Tom Weeden had his first race finish below 3rd place at Anglesey. This was his first race not wearing his orange novice jacket so not a good start. He did well in the two 20 minute untimed practise in wet conditions. The track was new to everyone so no one knew what to expect of grip levels. But Tom found that it was grippy everywhere even on the hard intermediate KR 364’s that he was running on. Coming into this meeting he was in 2nd place behind Edward Rendell. He would be winning had Ed not played his Joker last round. So Tom still has his in hand.
After practice he walked the track with ex 250 rider Brooky and found out where he had been going a bit wrong. For the race on Sunday it was dry. He qualified 3rd on the grid in dry but windy conditions.
In the first race he got of to a good start but in the first corner an Aprillia 125 was way to early on the brakes and Tom almost went into him. He got around him but by then three riders had pulled away from him. He was left to battle with Connor Tagg. He came home in 4th place, which is his lowest result so far.
The second race was better for him. He got off to an even better start and in the first corner he was second behind Aidden Simmons. Christian Peck on a Metrakit 80 overtook Toms Jawa 70 down the straight; this started a 3 lap long fierce battle with Tom, Aidden, Christian and Ed. When Tom was in Christians slipstream Tom overtook the Metrakit down the straight several times, but then Christian kept on taking Tom back down the straight in Toms slipstream. Tom overtook Christian on basically every corner on the brakes. And all the time they were gaining on Aidden. Behind Tom, Ed Rendell crashed out allowing Conner Tagg to take 4th place. Tom's Jawa was quicker than Christian's Metrakit on the corners, but slightly slower down the straight. Aidden wasn’t far ahead but his bike started to falter spluttering so he pulled over on the last lap. Tom was then put in first but on the last corner he went too wide and Christian overtook him to take the win.
This put a smile on his face after the disappointing first race.
Next round at Snetterton he hopes for an improvement on 2nd! |
